Written by Lesley Duncan. Arranged by Perry Botkin Jr. and produced by d Cobb and the Lettermen.
From the 1972 album, “Spin Away”
A faithful rendition of a song which the composer, Lesley Duncan, released as a 45 in 1970. It was also a track on her 1971 album, “Sing Children Sing”.
“Love Song” appeared on Elton John’s album, “Tumbleweed Connection” in 1970. With a #2 placing in the UK and #5 in the US, it was likely that it was that album that gave the song exposure. Neil Diamond recorded a version on his 2010 album, “Dreams”. Surprisingly, Lesley released over a dozen singles in the UK on a couple of big-name labels – but none charted.
The Lettermen’s “Spin Away” album didn’t chart but it was a strong set with arrangements by Perry Botkin Jr., Mort Garson and Vince Morton. The group in the early 70s comprised Tony Butula, Jim Pike and Gary Pike. Of the three, we lost Jim in 2019.
