Dr. Tiziana Proietti, Dr. Sergei Gepshtein | Architectural Proportion From an Empirical Standpoint

The University of Oklahoma Christopher C. Gibbs College of architecture was pleased to host guest lecturer Dr. Sergei Gepshtein and director of Sense|Base laboratory Dr. Tiziana Proietti during the Fall 2021 semester.

Dr. Proietti and Dr. Gepshtein's lecture entitled "Architectural Proportion from an Empirical Standpoint," took place on Thursday, October 7th from 4:00pm – 5:00pm at the Gould Hall Gallery.

About Dr. Proietti
Tiziana Proietti is an architect and Ph.D. in Architectural Design. Dr. Proietti has published several articles and books about proportion in architecture. She is currently carrying on research on the cognitive value of proportion by connecting neuroscience and architecture at the Sense|Base laboratory, located at the Gibbs College of Architecture. Tiziana Proietti is member of the design studio based in Amsterdam Satyendra Pakhalé Associates since 2013, professor at the Institute of European Design in Rome since 2015, curator of design and architectural exhibitions, and her area of knowledge and interest spans history and theory of architecture and industrial design, theory of proportion, phenomenology, anthropology of senses, neuroaesthetics and sensorial design.

About Dr. Gepshtein
Dr. Gepshtein is a scientist working in the areas of perceptual psychology and systems neuroscience. His research interests include perception of depth and movement, perceptual organization and Gestalt, multisensory integration, planning of multistep actions, and dynamics of cortical neural networks. He is a member of the Center for Neurobiology of Vision at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies (San Diego) and Adjunct Professor at the School of Cinematic Art at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles). At the latter, he recently founded the Center for Spatial Perception and Concrete Experience: a platform for investigating spatial experience as a natural narrative process.
