RFID reader transmit power is a setting that can be configured in a demo software program, custom software piece, and sometimes in the reader's Web UI as well. A reader's transmit power is essentially the amount of power transmitted from the RFID reader to the RFID antenna. RFID readers vary in terms of minimum and maximum amount of transmit power. In a typical fixed RFID reader, most of the time the transmit power can be configured as low as 10 dBm or high as 33 dBm; however, in USB and sled readers, sometimes the maximum is only around 25 or 27 dBm.
In this video, we will use the Impinj R700 UHF RFID Reader and Impinj's ItemTest Software to show you how to configure a reader's transmit power and how the change will affect your read range and RFID system.
