Russian President Vladimir Putin has hailed what his commanders described as the full capture of Pokrovsk, a key city in eastern Ukraine that Moscow calls Krasnoarmeysk. The declaration came late Monday, with Putin saying the advance would support Russia’s broader war objectives. The battle for Pokrovsk has been raging since mid-2024, with the city long serving as a strategic logistics hub for Ukrainian forces.

However, Ukrainian troops on the ground told Reuters on Tuesday that they are still holding the northern part of the city, rejecting claims of complete Russian control. Before-and-after images reveal the shocking devastation of Pokrovsk, once a bustling urban center now reduced to rubble.
