The man behind world-famous characters, including Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson, died in Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital on Saturday following complications from hip surgery. Nine Entertainment Editor Richard Wilkins told Weekend Today this morning he remembers Humphries as a "gentle" man possessed with a dry and sometimes brutal wit.
