Véronique Breuil vit en Amérique centrale où elle dirige l'alliance française d'Antigua la capitale culturelle du Guatemala. Elle a deux enfants et Archéologue de profession, elle se consacre à sa passion : la civilisation Maya.

Chaque année, elle se rend en pleine jungle sur le site de la Joyanca, une citée Maya qui a été découverte il y a 3 ans. La Joyanca n'est accessible que 3 mois par an pendant la saison sèche car le reste de l'année les pistes sont impraticables à cause des pluies. Au milieu de la grande forêt tropicale humide du Peten, Véronique dirige une partie des travaux de fouilles qui s'effectuent dans des conditions difficiles loin des infra structures humaines.

Les aventurières présentées sont toutes des femmes qui jouent un véritable rôle dans notre société. Leur goût pour l'aventure s'exprime à tarvers un métier. Qu'elles soient exploratrices, ethnologues, organisatrices de safaris, médecins ou primatologues, toutes contribuent à faire évoluer nos connaissances. Mais leur vocation ne pouvait s'exercer que dans un milieu difficile, voire extrême...

Aventures de femmes / Women adventurers - Véronique is fifty years old. This mother of a family is since many years managing the Alliance Française Office in Antigua, the chief town of Guatemala.
In the heart of the big rainy forest of Peten, the discovery of a maya temple in the middle of the jungle many years ago has attracted international scientists' attention. Veronique manages a part of the excavations that are lead in difficult conditions, far from human structures.
Each year, she lives under a tent for two months, faced to a nature often hostile, where scorpions, mygales and venomous snakes are numerous. Surrounded by a team of men, she classifies, dusts, marks, notes, takes prints of statues, analyzes all the traces left by the mysterious civilization of the mayas.
Early in her childhood, she already dreamt of old stones and discoveries of mummies. After some brilliant studies in archaeology, she decides to make her thesis on the grottos of the Yucatan in Mexico. She becomes, once there, also passionately fond of the ceramics and this is how she falls in love with the legendary civilization of the mayas.
Later on, she marries Jorge, an anthropologist from Guatemala and settles in his country where she can fully practice her passion and try to decrypt the antique mysteries of South America.
Informed of the latest discoveries, she shares her life between family life and research on the sites. Souvenirs from childhood, treasure hunting, reconstitution of puzzles, of poteries, analysis of drawings and of maya sculptures will be as many elements with which we shall recall Veronique's life.
