Spring is here at last! Well, it showed up for the day...
I take a sunny stomp down the former Great Central Railway from Clipstone Junction in Kings Clipstone, Nottinghamshire, down the Clipstone colliery branch, to the site of Clipstone colliery, and it's incredible surviving headstocks.
There are remains of railway infrastructure all along the route, but it really kicks off when I get to the site of 'Mansfield concentration sidings'.
These sidings were used by many collieries in the region un until 1986, and there is plenty to be found, including its listed GCR water tower.
Finally I reach Clipstone colliery, whose iconic headstocks were once the highest in Europe.
