Bose Institute (Basu Bigyan Mandir), a premier research institute established by Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose and located in Kolkata, West Bengal, has officially announced the call for applications for its Ph.D. Programme – Autumn 2025 batch. This is an excellent opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary Ph.D. research at an Autonomous Institute of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. The institute has declared a maximum of 61 seats available across three major research areas: Biological Sciences (covering Biology of Microbes, Plant Biology, Structural Biology and Bioinformatics, and Disease Biology), Chemical Sciences (focused on Chemistry and Chemical Biology), and Physical Sciences (including Theoretical Physics and Experimental Physics). Prospective candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent in Engineering/Science/Technology/Medical fields with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) and be below 28 years of age (with standard relaxation as per GoI rules). A critical eligibility requirement is a valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from a national-level test like CSIR-UGC NET, DBT-JRF, DBT-BINC-JRF, ICMR-NET, DST-INSPIRE, JEST, or equivalent, with the award validity extending beyond 31st January 2026; candidates with only GATE/NET LS without a JRF are also eligible to apply for a limited number of institutional fellowships. The application process is entirely online via the official portal, and the last date for submission is 14th November 2025 (23:59 Hrs.). Shortlisted candidates will be notified by 20th November 2025 and must attend an in-person interview tentatively scheduled between 8th to 12th December 2025. The results are expected by 24th December 2025. Candidates must pay a non-refundable Application Fee: Rs. 500/- for General/EWS/OBC-NCL Male candidates, and Rs. 250/- for all Female candidates and SC/ST/DAP applicants, which must be paid via the provided UPI ID (boseinstitute@sbi) or bank transfer (A/C Name: Bose Institute, Kolkata, A/C No. 39015188136, Bank: SBI, IFS Code: SBIN0001715). Upon selection, candidates will pay an Admission Fee of Rs. 10,000/- and will receive a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 + HRA (JRF) or Rs. 42,000 + HRA (SRF) as per Government of India norms.
