ক্রমে বাড়ছে হিলি স্থলবন্দর দিয়ে ভারত থেকে পাথর আমদানি। হিলি কাস্টমসের তথ্যমতে, ভারত থেকে প্রতিদিন ৪০ থেকে ৫০ ট্রাক পাথর আসছে এই স্থলবন্দর দিয়ে। পাথর ব্যবসাকে কেন্দ্র করে নিম্ন আয়ের মানুষের জন্য তৈরি হয়েছে কাজের সুযোগ। এ অবস্থায় বন্দরের ভেতরে জায়গা সম্প্রসারণের পাশাপাশি অবকাঠামোগত সুযোগ-সুবিধা বাড়ানোর দাবি জানিয়েছেন আমদানিকারকরা।

পদ্মা সেতু, মেট্রোরেল ও রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র নির্মাণ'সহ অবকাঠামোগত উন্নয়ন কাজে দেশে পাথরের চাহিদা বেড়েছে। বাড়তি চাহিদা পূরণে হিলি স্থলবন্দর দিয়ে আসছে ভারতীয় পাথর। হিলি কাস্টমসের তথ্যমতে গেল ছয় মাসে ৩ লাখ ২৬ হাজার মেট্রিক টন পাথর আমদানি হয়েছে।এসময় রাজস্ব আদায় হয়েছে ২৫ কোটি টাকার বেশি।

In this situation, the importers demanded to expand the space within the port as well as to increase infrastructural facilities.

Padma bridge, construction of metro rail and Rooppur nuclear power plants, including road infrastructure development in the country increased the demand for stone. Indian stone is coming with the help of Hili land port to meet the demand. According to the information of Hili, 3 lakh 26 thousand metric tons of stone was imported in six months. Revenue collection of more than Tk 25 crores more than this time.
