'When We Were Young' was the 6th of the 7 Top 10 hits the British pop achieved in their homeland. Bucks Fizz began as a Eurovision winning act in 1981 with 'Making Your Mind Up' but they were not going to be relegated to one hit wonder infamy with it, and managed to rack up 13 Top 40 chart placements across the six calendar years until 1986.
My personal favourite was 'Piece Of The Action' but Bucks Fizz had 3 #1 hits in Britain - the aforementioned 'Making Your Mind Up', 'The Land Of Make Believe' and 'My Camera Never Lies - both in 1982. 'When We Were Young' posted here in its extended club mix format, peaked at #10 in the middle of 1983. The song would be included on a Greatest Hits collection later that year along with two other new recordings. It represented a tougher sound and was a sizable hit in Europe as well as in Britain. It did not register at all here in Australia. I have re-edited a performance on 'Top Of The Pops' using the dance mix of the song.
