Let’s Talk About Microalgae, Their Cultivation and Quirks With Dr. Carneiro

#Microalgae are generally classified into green, brown and red microalgae. But it is not just the colour that distinguishes them from each other.

Each species of microalgae produces a unique mix of many different compounds. Some of these compounds have anti-inflammatory effects or can boost our gut microbiome. We can use these compounds in medicine.

Therefore, we need to grow large amounts of these microalgae to get the required amounts of compounds. However, each species of microalgae has its own specific needs to thrive outside its natural environment in a #photobioreactor.

Dr. Mariana Carneiro from Necton, the oldest microalgae producer in Europe, talks about the quirks of microalgae and sustainable #cultivation at industrial scale.
