Can I look on your beauty and be mute
And only watch, while other poets speak,
Or snap the strings asunder from my lute,
Or bury life and bring my heart to break?
Not so, for though you’ve scanned their poetry,
And seen too well the heaven of your eyes,
Your body, and your gait, for many mirrors be
Where you observe your light, in me there lies
An admiration for eternities;
And therefore, I’ll communicate my love,
Now, even as our burning planet dies.
I love you. That is all my writer’s art.
And I may fade, but I will not remove
The essence of this feeling in my heart.
