I had the pleasure of attending a paracycling camp a few weeks back where I met Matt. I've been handcycling for 23 years but not like this. The handcycle I typically use is built more for leisure, street and trail riding. The bike in this video is for high competitive racing. Matt, who suffered an incomplete C6 spinal cord injury demonstrates how he transfers independently from wheelchair to bike. I also demonstrate how I transfer from a wheelchair to the bike.

Twenty two years ago I suffered a spinal cord injury on a cold dark November night. It was diagnosed I had a T-12 incomplete compressional fracture. Since day one of my accident I have had and continue to have an enormous amount of support from my family, friends and community. Once becoming completely independent, bound to a wheelchair I always enjoyed giving back. Whether it was visiting schools, community organizations public speaking, demonstrating sports, visiting newly injured spinal cord patients, helping with non-profit organizations helping people is what I love to do. That is why I decided to start ParaLife TV. In today's world as we all know public gatherings, in my neck of the woods anyway have been basically shut down. ParaLife TV is a way for me to continue to help. Through YouTube I am able show people day to day experiences, how I have adapted to life in a wheelchair and share what our community has to offer.

Quadriplegia is the result of injury or illness, almost always affecting the spine. Though a paraplegic has lost the use only of his or her legs, quadriplegics are paralyzed in all four limbs. Today voice-activated wheelchairs help the quadriplegic get around, and houses can be equipped with similar systems to operate lights and appliances; monkeys have even been trained to assist quadriplegics with everyday tasks. The work of the quadriplegic actor Christopher Reeve has led to remarkable advances in developing new nerve connections, enabling some determined paraplegics and quadriplegics to walk again.

Incomplete quadriplegia involves weakness or paralysis of all four limbs. Depending on the severity of the spinal cord injury, individuals may have residual movement. About 47% of all spinal cord injuries result in incomplete quadriplegia, making it the most common type of spinal cord injury.
