Olivier Latry inaugurates the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn

The Blessing of the Restored Pipe Organ at Our Lady of Refuge started with the congregation singing the hymn Holy God We Praise Thy Name. The first time without the organ, after the pipe organ was blessed and called into the service of God by Bishop DiMarzio and Fr. Michael Perry of the Brooklyn Diocese. A the end of the blessing service the organ is heard accompanying a packed church lifting the roof in song praising God. The restoration of this pipe organ was paid for by over 1000 people, most of them have never been to Brooklyn. They were largely clients of JAV Recordings a company owned by Joe Vitacco. Joe had attended 1st and 2nd grade at Our Lady of Refuge in the 1970s and the pipe organ in this church inspired his interested in the pipe organ - though it was in awful condition.

He oversaw the fundraising and restoration of the parish's pipe organ.

After the organ was restored to pristine condition he organized 7 organ recitals. They included organists: Johann Vexo, Craig Cramer, Todd Wilson, Thierry Escaich, Loreto Aramendi and concluded with Daniel Roth. The recitals were all very well attended by people from the Ditmas Park area. He hopes the organ is shared with the community and is cared for as a treasure of Ditmas Park and the Brooklyn Diocese. He worked with a dedicated team at Our Lady of Refuge for 10 years.
