One Life to Live 10/3/1990

Tina still has a fever but resists Cord’s efforts to go see Dr. Wolek. Cord insists that Tina isn’t getting better and he calls Larry’s office. Larry’s receptionist says Larry has an opening right now, so Cord ushers a reluctant Tina into the car. Andy is upset by the scandal surrounding Tony–she wishes the church was standing by him, and she doesn’t believe he stole the money. Max says she isn’t the only person who thinks so. Gabrielle says he confessed and she doesn’t see how there’s anything left to discuss. Tony comes into the bar to do some day drinking. Max thinks he and Gabrielle aren’t being supportive enough to Tony. Rafe arrives to have a chat with Tony. He says he and Herb smell something rotten in this whole affair, and they both agreed they can drop the whole matter if he returns the funds. Tony says he doesn’t know where the money is, and he tells Rafe to just arrest him already. Rafe obliges and takes him down to the station. Max says he will try to convince Asa to get Tony a lawyer. Charlotte runs into Megan at the health club where Jake works and accuses Megan of coming there just to spy on Jake. Megan says she’s just there working out, but Charlotte doesn’t buy that explanation and warns Megan away. Jake puts in his two cents and says he doesn’t belong to either woman. While Tina changes into a hospital gown, Cord tells Larry that he and Tina are getting married soon. After Cord steps outside, Tina tells Larry she’s fine, it’s just a mild case of the flu, but Larry insists she get a proper checkup. Asa tells Max and Gabrielle that he and Renee saw Tony’s press conference, and Renee was heartbroken. They say a lot of people feel the same way and were hoping Asa might assign one of his lawyers to the case out of the goodness of his heart. Asa first he wants to question them both about the night he found them in his study. Gabrielle repeats her story about waiting around for Max because she locked herself out of the house. Asa tells her that when he left the money in his desk was neatly stacked and when he returned it was not, and Max suggests Gabrielle tell Asa the truth for once. When she remains silent, Max tells Asa that Gabrielle knows exactly what happened to the money.

Charlotte has lunch with her father and asks him why he thinks the police haven’t found Sarah Buchanan yet. Carlo admits that the whole thing seems to be a cat-and-mouse game. Charlotte asks if everybody is wrong or if Carlo is involved in some way. The insinuation angers Carlo, who asks whether she really cares what “everybody” thinks or if this is just about Jake. Carlo repeats that he isn’t involved in Sarah’s disappearance, so Charlotte says he could use his connections to have her found. Carlo refuses to get involved. When Carlo goes to pay the bill, Charlotte sees his calendar on the seat and decides to snoop. She sees repeated references to “S” in the planner, she realizes it must refer to Sarah. Tina and Cord return home, where Tina tells Renee that Larry agrees she has the flu. She asks Renee to call and schedule an appointment at the clinic for next week, explaining she can’t call when Cord is around. Max tells Asa that Gabrielle was distraught that evening, having just met with Tony who told her he had taken the money from Outlook House. Gabrielle adds that she was very upset, she was pacing around the office, and she saw the drawer with the money sitting open. She claims she had counted the money and thought about taking it but decided on her own to put it back. Asa thanks Max for telling the truth and agrees to send a lawyer to the station for Tony. Larry makes a house call to bring Tina her prescription. He decides since Tina is sleeping and because Cord is her fiance he can tell Cord the other news he has: Tina is pregnant. Cord is over the moon and thinks Tina will be thrilled too. Charlotte catches up to Jake as he is about to leave the health club She tells him about her father’s datebook and how the most recent entry concerning “S” mentioned the River Street Warehouse. Charlotte is visibly upset, having previously believed Carlo’s repeated insistence that he was not involved in the abduction. Jake says he’s sorry she had to find out about her dad this way. He suggests she not say anything to her father until she hears from him. As soon as Charlotte leaves, Jake calls Megan, says he’s on his way over, and tells her to try and get hold of Bo. Out on bail, Tony returns to Max’s Place to drown himself in drink. Gabrielle is close behind and asks Tony why he refused Asa’s lawyer. Deciding to cut Tony off, Andy escorts him to her spare bedroom to sleep it off. Max arrives and Gabrielle is angry that he threw her under the bus, but Max says the whole affair has helped him gain Asa’s trust. He tells his wife not to jeopardize his plan to make Asa pay for ripping off his father. Jake tells Megan about the intel from Charlotte, but he says he needs to check it out. He tells Megan to stay put while he does.
