Long time no see! I learned about TAG at the National in 2023. We kept crossing paths, and I decided to submit a few cards for the experience. I have to say the slabs are extremely clean. I love the 1000 point scale and the grading reports. It feels like what a collector would want for the cards they want to keep.
Competition is good for the hobby. As the industry continues to consolidate, we've seen how CGC's presence and innovation have pushed the industry leader, PSA, to adopt more error card labeling and be more responsive to collectors. I'm excited to see TAG further promote competition by raising the bar of consistency. I'm hopeful TAG will lift the hobby to the next level with their grading reports, transparency, and focus on the collector. Ideally, TAG forces other grading companies to improve grading consistency and begin to offer detailed grading reports. As a collector, it can feel like your voice isn't heard by the grading companies when mistakes are made or poor service is given. Competition seems to more rapidly improve product offerings than complaints to customer service departments.
I'll always encourage and be in favor of competition. The collector benefits when industry standards improve.
Disclosure: I have not been compensated by TAG in any way. All posts and thoughts are my own. I have explored investment options with TAG. This video was recorded in March, and no investment has been made. If any benefit is received, it will be publicly disclosed. No benefits are expected. I've paid over $1k in grading fees and received zero dollars from TAG. I like what TAG is doing for the industry. I've helped all sorts of companies in our hobby improve their offerings. I'd love to help TAG in the future.
