Gorgon Medusa is a creature in ancient Greek mythology with snakes for hair, and anyone who looked into her eyes would turn to stone. She is the youngest daughter of Phorcys and Ceto (according to another legend, the daughter of Gorgon).
Medusa was born as a very beautiful girl, and the goddess Athena was extremely jealous of her beauty—especially her stunning hair.
Poseidon, captivated by Medusa’s beauty, took the form of a bird and seduced her. He then assaulted her in Athena’s temple. Enraged by this desecration, Athena placed a curse on Medusa.
