During Golden Week, I visited Kamikochi to hike and unwind. I chose the scenic trail from Taisho-Ike to Myojin Ike, which loops back to Kappa Bridge. Although a day trip is feasible in Kamikochi, we wanted to savor the experience and chose to stay overnight.
Access: To reach Kamikochi from Matsumoto Station, start by boarding a local train bound for Shinshima-Shima station, which typically takes about 30 minutes. Once at Shinshima-Shima, transfer to a bus that will take you directly to Kamikochi, with the bus journey lasting around 1 hour. Tickets for both the train and bus can be conveniently purchased from ticket machines at Matsumoto Station. You have the option to buy combined train and bus tickets for added convenience. No advance reservations are necessary; you can purchase your tickets on the day of your travel, ensuring a flexible and stress-free journey to Kamikochi.
