The 1975 BRDC International Trophy, officially known as the 27th Daily Express International Trophy, was a non-championship Formula One race held on 13 April 1975 at Silverstone Circuit. Organized by the British Racing Drivers’ Club, the event acted as an unofficial opener for the European leg of that year’s season.
In qualifying, James Hunt, driving for the small Hesketh Racing team, set the fastest time and secured pole position. During the race, he remained firmly at the front for many laps, even setting the fastest lap on the 14th tour. Emerson Fittipaldi, running third in his McLaren, matched Hunt’s lap time on lap 23. However, at the start of lap 26, Hunt’s engine failed, handing the lead to Niki Lauda, who had been running second in his Ferrari.
Despite Fittipaldi pushing to the absolute limit in an attempt to overtake, Lauda held onto the top spot until the checkered flag, crossing the finish line just 0.1 seconds ahead. The podium was completed by Mario Andretti, who brought his Parnelli home in third place.
