This was recorded on October 25, 1978. Guitarist/Vocalist/Founder, Terry Kath, died on January 23, 1978. Chicago appeared at the Grammy Awards as presenters on February 23, 1978. Only Walt Parazaider did not attend. This was their first public appearance as a group on TV. They wanted to show the world that they were gonna stay together.
This performance was the first time that the entire band would perform for the world (They had been playing concerts for around 2 months in the US). The band introduced guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Donnie Dacus on this night. Donnie would not last in the shadows of Kath. He was with the band for about 1 year and 10 months.
"Alive Again" was the first single off of Chicago's twelfth album, "Hot Streets" (1978). It was their first album to feature a name and not a number. The band also shed the logo and their images were placed on the album's cover. They also had new management and a new producer. Many changes occurred in light of Kath's death.
This song was written by trombonist James "Jimmy" Pankow and it reached #12 on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart.
Enjoy!
