Traditional learning takes centre stage at Arunachal Gurukul meet

The Donyi Polo Cultural & Charitable Trust (DPCCT) on Saturday organised the two-day DPCCT Gurukul Annual Meet 2025–26, aimed at promoting traditional values, culture and moral education among children through the Gurukul system.

Organisers described the Gurukul model as an effective platform for preserving indigenous heritage and instilling discipline, unity and cultural awareness among the younger generation.

The annual meet saw participation from students of four Gurukuls—Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko (Rang), Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko (Mwya), Menjwk Meqkok Rwguu (Basar) and Nilung Tungko Pabo—who came together to share experiences and learning rooted in traditional knowledge systems.

The first day of the event featured a range of educational, cultural and sporting activities, including badminton and chess competitions, Gita chanting, reading English books and translating them into Hindi as well as respective community dialects. Several value-based learning programmes were also organised as part of the schedule.

Cultural performances showcasing traditional art forms, rituals and practices formed a key highlight of the programme, underlining the importance of safeguarding indigenous customs and passing them on to future generations.

Speaking to the media, the organisers said that in today’s fast-paced modern lifestyle, children are increasingly drifting away from their cultural roots and traditional values. They emphasised that the Gurukul system offers a balanced approach where traditional wisdom and cultural practices coexist with modern education.

Such institutions, they added, play a crucial role in teaching children to preserve, practise and protect their traditions, ensuring that ancestral knowledge and values continue to thrive through successive generations.
