In Skandha 6, Adhyaya 18 of Shrimad Bhagavatam, the story reveals how Diti, the wife of Kashyapa Muni, seeks revenge against Indra for killing her sons. She performs a severe one-year vow to give birth to a son powerful enough to destroy Indra. However, due to a moment of carelessness and inner anger, Indra enters her womb and destroys the embryo. From this act are born the 49 Marut Devatas, divine wind gods who later become Indra’s strongest allies. This chapter teaches that anger destroys purpose, while divine will transforms destruction into harmony.
