Autumnal Walk from Ambleside to the English Countryside | AMBLESIDE, ENGLAND

Join me on this Halloween walk through the popular town of Ambleside in the English Lake District and into the countryside towards Rydal Water along the River Rothay. We finish this video taking in the picturesque Stockghyll Force.

The Bridge House is a small, 17th-century stone house and popular tourist attraction in Ambleside, in the Lake District National Park. Its unusual design features a structure built directly over Stock Beck, a small river that flows through the town. The Braithwaite family originally built the house in the 17th century, possibly to store apples from their orchards, to access land on the other side of the beck, or to avoid land tax. In the 1920s, a group of local residents, including Beatrix Potter's husband, William Heelis, raised money to buy the house, which had fallen into disrepair. The group then donated it to the National Trust in 1926 to secure its future.

St Mary's Church was built in the 1850s to a design by George Gilbert Scott in Gothic Revival style. Notable features include its stone spire, which is a local landmark and an unusual feature in Lake District churches. There is a 26-foot mural on the west wall depicting the traditional ceremony of rushbearing (which still takes place on the first Saturday in July). The mural was created by Gordon Ransom of the Royal College of Art when the College was evacuated to Ambleside during the Second World War.

Stockghyll Force, about half a mile east of Ambleside town centre, is a waterfall in a series of cascades totalling 70 feet in height. Stock Ghyll divides into two channels at the top of the waterfall, and then into three, all of which are finally reunited.
