Japanese tabletop RPGs fill an interesting niche, much like their video game counterparts. They're not all TRIPLE AYYYYY producutions or indie affairs with no room in between, but they explore game mechanics and themes you don't really find elsewhere. (As much as I despise it, Persona 5 comes to mind as an example of what I mean regarding the video game half of this comparison.)
Floria the Verdant Way is the tabletop RPG I'd point to if I want to demonstate the unique things you can find in a Japanese game. They're a bit more structured than their western counterparts, sometimes feeling more like a board game you provide the pieces for yourself.
But they're brief, and get to their point pretty quickly. Floria is all about exploring a forest, and gathering magical power as you do; represented by drawing lines on a grid. And to use that magical power, you find certain shapes within the lines in the grid.
Throw in ample imagery to get the mood across, and you've got a delightful game you can get a fair bit of mileage out of in 100 pages or so. It's one of the reasons I love indie RPGs from Japan.
