🎉 This year ICOMOS celebrates its 60th anniversary. On this festive occasion, seven distinguished ICOMOS members look back on our shared journey dedicated to the conservation and protection of cultural heritage worldwide.
Meet Yukio Nishimura, our third interviewee in this series!
Yukio Nishimura was one of the ICOMOS’ representatives attending the Nara Conference on Authenticity in 1994, which resulted in the Nara Document - a key landmark in heritage conservation, underlining the importance of cultural context in assessing heritage authenticity. As a Vice-President of ICOMOS from 2002 to 2005 and President of ICOMOS Japan from 2009 to 2019, he greatly contributed to development plans for preserving cultural heritage sites in Asia.
In this video, Yukio Nishimura reflects on ICOMOS’ role in drafting the Nara Document and the influence of this Document on his work as a heritage professional.
