Glen Phillips debuted “Leaving Oldtown” during a Stageit performance on December 28th, 2014. The song quickly became a fan favorite, making regular appearances in his solo setlists throughout 2015 and 2016. “Leaving Oldtown” was included on Phillips’ 2016 solo album Swallowed By the New, which was released in October of that year. The album explores themes of loss, transition, and healing, with “Leaving Oldtown” echoing many of those themes. Although the song has not been performed as frequently in recent years, it occasionally resurfaces in solo shows. This particular performance was recorded during the second of two shows at Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on December 14th, 2016 — just two months after the release of Swallowed By the New.
