I’ve been finding myself going back a full circle.

There was a period where I would push the ball around till I got to hit a slice, then just blind rush the net. But a lot of these slices were floaty. And due to my weak groundstrokes, most opponents tended to stick closer to the baseline, expecting short balls.

Then I started picking my spots, becoming more selective when I come to the net. If I’m lucky and hit a shot where the opponent had to stretch then I would rush in.

Then I started trying to box from the baseline. Built up my baseline game a bit and learnt to keep opponents deeper back.

And now I’m back to slicing and rushing, albeit with a bit more selection, making sure I’m a little further into the court and can hit an aggressive slice before I rush in.

Hi! I’m Ray and I play NTRP 3.5-4.0-ish level tennis in Singapore. Most players are self-rated on an app called Reclub, where many of us find hitting partners.

I (sleeves) serve and volley and rush the net whenever the opportunity arises.

Gene (sleeveless) has an all round game an great fitness. Tough to finish the point against him and at the same time tough to beat him in a volley battle.

We play a 8-game pro set which we drew 7-7 and he led 6-5 in a 7 point tiebreak when our time on the court was up.
