狼牙棒 - LangYaBang - Wolf Teeth Club 3

This weapon the LangYaBang(狼牙棒) or Wolfs Teeth Club/Wolfs brush seems not commonly used by Chinese Practitioners.Its may not even known by some people. Most people may know the DaDao(or Guan Dao), spear, Jian, maybe also Melon Hammers and so on. If I wouldnt have got an Manual about this weapon I might woudlnt know about it either.According to my current understanding this could because in the past it was mainly a Millitary weapon used in Battle.

Another reason may be that is diffcult to manuveur.

In Battle this weapon would have been used at the outer boundaries of a battle formation alongside with the Trident and the Dadao which have to assist.So you use the Wolfs Teeth Club as a kind of "door lock".

That means if you close the door, no one who you dont want to can enter the room. If you leave it open he will enter and cause trouble. That might be one of the reasons why an comandant had to choose a very strong person to wield that weapon.

Alongside with this formation. Shields would cover the front and spears both left and right flanks.

Interestingly the manual states that this weapon can defend but cannot kill. From my limited understanding this is because the main function of this weapon is to stop all kind of long weapons from trying to enter from the side of a formation and making a door for other troops to break through this formation.

So its not like the Long Spear or the Miao Dao or Chang Dao which you can use to attack. Of course it may can kill people but that isnt its main purpose.

Until now I have encountered three types of this weapon. Two long weapons and one short version.The head and the brushes of one version is thicker. It seems generally as if this weapon is a bit heaiver then the other one.

The short one looks somewhat similar to Melon Hammers with thick needles on it and it seems to be used mostly in pairs.
