Jazz Sethi - On an unending journey to create awareness about Type 1 diabetes

In type 1 diabetes, the body’s own immune system attacks and destroys cells that make insulin. Therefore, type 1 diabetes is known as an autoimmune disease. The tendency to develop type 1 diabetes is passed through generations but the exact pattern of inheritance is still not clear. In the majority of cases, the type 1 diabetes can pass through genes from mother or father. However, the condition can also occur due to environmental factors such as viruses triggering the condition. These factors induce autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta (β) cells which attack and destroy cells that make insulin. Lifestyle doesn’t have a major role in inducing type 1 diabetes.



Meet Jazz Sethi, who has been living with Type 1 diabetes since the age of 13. She is the founder and director of The Diabesties Foundation – a global movement to create awareness about Type 1 Diabetes.
