This is a miscellany of railroad scenes from the Fox Movietone News outtakes at the University of South Carolina's Moving Image Resource Collection. Scenes include:
0:20 Multiple trains on the Pennsylvania Railroad
1:25 A top-of-the-tender ride on the New Haven Railroad's 4-8-2 Mountain No. 3553
2:24 An Erie Railroad passenger train, headed by 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler No. 970, at a station. It comes forward, backs up, then departs.
3:50 A New York, Ontario & Western passenger train blows for a grade crossing and passes a station. The locomotive, No. 241, is a center-cab "Camelback" Ten-Wheeler.
The president of the O&W Railway Historical Society says: "The train is passing through West Nyack (on the ex-West Shore track, owned by the New York Central) heading south towards the end of its run at Weehawken, NJ. Because there is no baggage car, many wood coaches are on the train, and several kids are hanging out the windows, the train appears to be a special for transporting kids to and from summer camps in New York State. In this case, Sep 7, 1928. is the Friday after Labor Day Monday, definitely at the end of the summer camp season."
None of the other shooting locations has been identified.
