So far, all of the surfaces we’ve created change the appearance of a model, but none have actually deformed the polygons or given any appearance of depth. Let’s change that! Blender offers several methods of conveying depth in your materials including adding a bump property as well as offering displacement functions.
In this next step, I’ll be referencing and using an existing texture pack from a website called ambientcg.com which offers lots of free to use textures for 3D artists. You can access the texture pack for this lesson at the link below.
Any of the size options will work. As a rule, know that larger textures will generally give you better quality renders, but come at the expense of larger file size. Be smart about the sizes you choose. In most cases 1k size will work. If you expect to render very close to this specific texture, then you may want to opt for a 4k resolution.

Let’s put these textures to good use! Using the node editor, lets work through a Brick surface sample and utilize the color maps, displacements maps, and normal maps from the example above.
