H.A.T.E., or Hostile All-Terrain Encounter, is similar to Sega's Zaxxon and it was also released for Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and ZX Spectrum.
The game is set as a training simulator in the year 2320. Colonised sectors of the galaxy are under alien threat and the player must qualify on "Stripworld" in order to join the Galactic Fighter Pilots.
The only goal is to survive until the end of each level, but extra lives for the subsequent level can be accumulated by collecting plasma cells occasionally left behind by destroyed enemies. The player alternates between an aeroplane and a tank as they progress through 10 levels.
£9.99 Tape
£14.99 Disk
Also included in Commodore Force #04 (April 1993) - Reel Action #8.
Many many many many thanks to minotaurus!
What he said about this game? let's see:
Collisions are bad, some advanced levels are easier than previous ones; difficulty increases after the first 10 levels (which would be 1st loop) as well as after 20 levels (2nd loop).
After level 30 you will always return to level 21, even if you get a game over.
There are no lives, when you lose you are sent back to the previous level.
You get a game over if you lose in the first level, or in level 11 and 21.
To finish each level it's essential to have at least one protection unit (those "things" you find and carry with you).
This video is part of the videogame endings database, whose goal is to catalogue and create the world's largest archive of videogame endings! (what an humble and not ambitious project :D)
