The Quiet Neighbor lived in the small house next to ours. It was an old house, with peeling white paint and a little garden in front. Sometimes, I saw him tending to the plants. Sometimes, he just sat on the porch in a wooden chair, staring at nothing. He had white hair and slow steps. His hands were thin and always folded neatly in front of him.
He never waved. He never spoke. Not even to say hello. I did not know his name for a long time. I only called him “the quiet neighbor” in my head
