The Need For Speed SE is one of my favourite installments in the franchise, falling only behind
NFS III: Hot Pursuit and High Stakes. This game is an instant classic and be enjoyed today by configuring DOSBox (as per the below link).

The original PC version from 1995 is not worth playing as the SE completely shines above it in every way, including music on track, track map, time of day setting (morning or evening depending on the track), mirror mode, two additional courses and a points based tournament system.

The Playstation version and possibly Sega Saturn versions can still be enjoyed. The PS1 version includes a time of day option for both morning, midday and evening on every track which was not present on any other version (except Sega Saturn potentially), includes an arcade mode after beating the tournament and a course not featured on all other ports (Lunar Springs).
