In Democratic Republic of Congo, villagers have been fleeing their homes in the east of the country as the army pursues Rwandan rebels based there. Congolese forces have been preparing to take on FDLR militants after they failed to meet a disarmament deadline. Fighting has been reported in the South Kivu province close to the Burundian border - and a second front will be opened around 200 kilometres from the city of Goma.
