Will there be a second season of squid game?

Hey guys! We have all the details on whether or not Squid Game will be returning for a second season, BUT…

Ok so fans all around the world have made squid game Netflix’s most watched show EVER just a month after its premiere!

Netflix revealed that Squid Game was ranked number one in 94 countries and a staggering 142 million households have watched the show so far!

Because of the extreme success of the show AND the fact that the finale was left open ended fans are assuming we will get a second season, BUT as of right now nothing has been announced!

The good news is the show's creator has made it clear that a second season is definitely a possibility!

He explained to Variety that writing the first season by himself took a lot out of him..Revealing it took 6 months to write and rewrite the first 2 episodes!

He said:

"I don’t have well developed plans for 'Squid Game 2.' It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors”

Now that the show has found immense success, there’s also more pressure attached to another season!

He opened up about the pressure to The Hollywood Reporter saying:

“if you look at it in a positive way... I could actually pull ideas from fans all around the world to create the next season, shouldn't just view it as a huge amount of pressure, but think of all of this love and support I'm receiving as a big box of inspiration that I can leverage for season two."
Even though he’s still deciding IF season 2 will happen he’s already considering where the plot could go and teased one of his ideas to the Times saying:
"While I was writing season one, I thought about the stories that could be in season two if I get to do one—one would be the story of the Frontman,"

Adding, "I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news that the police force can be very late on acting on things—there are more victims or a situation gets worse because of them not acting fast enough. This was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season two I can talk about this more."
Assuming season 2 will happen fans will probably have to wait patiently for some time for new episodes!

We know that the creator has already signed on to some film projects and that season 1 of Squid Game was in production for 2 years, so with even the most optimistic timeline we probably wouldn’t be able to see anything new until 2023 at the earliest!
I think it's safe to say fans are willing to wait as long as it takes and HOPEFULLY we’ll get some exciting announcements soon!
