In DC Comics, sidekicks are usually younger heroes like Robin or Kid Flash, trained and mentored by legendary icons such as Batman and The Flash. These characters often begin as assistants, learning from their mentors before evolving into powerful heroes in their own right.
Marvel approaches sidekicks differently. Instead of traditional assistants, characters like Bucky Barnes and Miles Morales grow from protégés into independent heroes or legacy successors. Their journeys focus more on stepping into the spotlight rather than staying in the shadow of their mentors.
Both Marvel and DC use sidekicks to explore powerful themes like growth, legacy, and responsibility, but they do it in unique ways. While DC leans into the classic mentor-and-student dynamic, Marvel emphasizes a more peer-to-peer and generational transition, where the “sidekick” often becomes the next generation of hero.
