VW Caddy BKD Engine Swap | First Start & Walkaround (180bhp Diesel)

This sleeper van runs around 180bhp, with the engine running throughout so you can hear and see the setup properly — a little more poke than the original 69bhp… by quite a margin 😅

In this video, we take a calm walkthrough of the van, covering the exterior, engine bay, and interior, providing insight into the conversion without over-editing or hype.

This footage was sourced from the Scottish Mechanical archive and documents the build at this stage. The Caddy is an ongoing project that continues to evolve as it is used and driven, with improvements and refinements occurring alongside real-world use.

Since this video was filmed, many parts have been further upgraded, some of which are mentioned in the video itself, with more updates to follow.

The build makes use of OEM parts from various VAG vehicles to achieve a clean factory-plus finish. Now insulated and carpeted to increase comfort and reduce road noise, it also runs coilovers for improved handling and a set of 19" BBS wheels to complete the stance. Parts from VAG donors such as the Touran, Audi TT, and Golf have been incorporated to keep everything usable, tidy, and true to the OEM+ ethos.

As mentioned Andy Bloxsome at Overboost has carried out a few tweaks to the van, with the wiring work completed as part of the conversion to ensure everything functions as intended.
