This is my opinion for my 2005 saab 9-3 arc 5sp, and if you decide to make your own diy air intake, make it at your own risk. Pros of diy air intake, lots of cool noises from turbo and valve diverter, awesome in winter do to super cold air, diy air intake might look cool under the hood. Cons of diy air intake, turbo lag do to hot air from the engine in hot days. Pros of oem air intake box, it actually works like a cold air intake by sucking air from the bumper/fender, will be better during summer hot days by not sucking as much hot air from the engine compartment and turbo lag will be less noticeable, cons will be no more cool noises from turbo and valve diverter. You can always make a diy air intake and go back and forth during summer and winter.
