The Eritrean dictator trained, armed, and funded Drar Ahmed Drar, leader of the Eastern Sudanese Islamist Front, who is threatening the Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed, as seen in the Video.

Drar visited and met the Eritrean dictator in August 2025 in Eritrea. Shortly after, Drar Ahmed Drar is threatening the Ethiopian PM. In his July 2025 interview, the Eritrean dictator openly stated that he aimed to overthrow the Ethiopian PM.

The Eritrean dictator is also training and arming the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) under Al-Burhani, a coalition of Islamic groups, effectively turning Sudan into a zone of Iranian influence and the next launchpad against Israel. Al-Burhani even moved fighter planes into Eritrea, and with the dictator’s support, pushed back the secular RSF forces led by Hemeti.

His reach extends beyond Ethiopia and Sudan. The Eritrean dictator has threatened to dismantle Somaliland and, in the same July interview, proudly claimed he trained 10,000 soldiers and sent them to Somalia. Previously, he supported the Al-Shabab Islamist group in Somalia, which led the U.S. to impose sanctions on him in 2009.

The dictator’s loyalty to Iran and support for the Houthis in Yemen are well documented. His silence when the Houthis attack ships — over a third of which pass through Eritrean territorial waters — signals clear backing. The Houthis have even blocked Israeli ships in the Red Sea with the full cooperation of the Eritrean dictator.

Countries in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea — including Yemen, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, and Ethiopia — are fragile, with hundreds of competing tribes and clans vying for limited resources. The Eritrean dictator needs only minimal intervention to support an aggrieved tribe, clan, or group and destabilize these fragile nation-states.

He is firmly aligned with the Iranian axis, as well as with China and Russia, extending their influence in the region. Unfortunately, Western countries, including the U.S., Israel, and Gulf states, have a limited understanding of the destabilizing power wielded by the Eritrean dictator.
