In this episode of Let the Ancestors Speak, Dr. Hardiman, drawing from her studies of Ancient Kemet, Continental Africa, Diasporic Africa, and Medieval Europe takes us on a tour of her Dining Table. She talks about the Dining Room Table as a place not just where food is eaten but a place that is foundational to cultural transmission, character building, and good home training. She tells stories about Sunday Dinners at her parent’s house in Buffalo, New York, and about her cultural custodian Grand Uncle Phalous Houston Bratton. She discusses the most common types of furniture and hygiene protocols in Ancient Kemet and Pre- invasion Africa. She talks about Early Christain and Medieval attitudes about bathing and hygiene and its pandemic results. She ends by suggesting in these Pandemic Times that we Ra-turn to Ritual and Protocol, Ancestral Home Training, Dining Table Experiences, Washing our Hands, and Preparing for the Good Things that come at the end of the Family Prayers and Infra-structure Building.
