Many Metro Vancouver malls, including Richmond Centre, Pacific Centre, Metropolis at Metrotown, Amazing Brentwood, Park Royal, McArthurGlen, and Tsawwassen Mills, will be open on New Year's Day. Save-On-Foods stores will be open with adjusted hours, but Costco warehouses will be closed.
Attractions like Science World, Vancouver Aquarium, and FlyOver Canada are open. VanDusen Festival of Lights and Canyon Lights continue into the new year. The Vancouver Art Gallery will be closed.
Limited community centers, fitness centers, and pools are open, with specific hours. The Polar Bear Swim event is scheduled at English Bay. Most Vancouver Public Library branches are closed except for Carnegie Branch. Ice skating is available at select rinks and Robson Square.
Local mountains like Cypress, Seymour, and Grouse are open for skiing and snowboarding. Restaurants and cafes, including fast-food chains, are likely open. TransLink offers free service from 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 5 a.m. on Jan. 1, with a Sunday/holiday schedule for the remainder of the day. Government offices, banks, Canada Post, B.C. Liquor stores, and ICBC are closed.
