The A74(M) Motorway, together with its cousin the M74, connects Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, to the M6 near the England/Scotland border. It's the only motorway connecting Scotland and England. In the 1960s the A74 along this route had been upgraded to a dual carriageway along most of the length, and a new motorway bypass for Bothwell, Hamilton & Larkhall had been constructed as the M74. The M74 was extended to Junction 12 by 1987 and Junction 13 at Abington by 1991. Most of the remainder of the route was improved as an direct motorway upgrade of the existing A74 in the early and mid-1990s so was numbered A74(M). The final completion of the entire route was done in 2011 when the northernmost section of M74 was extended to meet the M8 in central Glasgow.
The A74(M) part of the route runs for a total of 48 miles (78km) from Abington at J13 to Gretna Green at J22. This video shows a full southbound trip along almost the entire A74(M). Timings are;
