Parthasarathy Perumal Temple is devoted to Bhagwan Vishnu in the avatar of Parthsarathy and Devi Lakshmi in the form of Vedavalli Thayar. This temple is glorified in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham by Alwars and is one of the 108 Divya Desam Temples devoted to Shri Mahavishnu. Here Perumal appears in the form of charioteer Krishna from Mahabharata and hence the name Parthasarathy meaning charioteer of Parth or Arjuna.
The temple is one of the oldest temples in Chennai and was built in the 6th century CE by Pallava king Narasimhavarman I and was subsequently maintained and expanded by the Chola kings and Vijayanagara kings.
Timings: 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
