South Korea’s KDX II Destroyers Set for $300 Million Upgrade Enhancing Naval Defense Capabilities

On December 16, 2024, the U.S. State Department approved a potential $300 million Foreign Military Sale to South Korea for the upgrade of its KDX-II class destroyers. This comprehensive modernization will address critical obsolescence issues and enhance the destroyers’ anti-surface and anti-air capabilities, ensuring their continued effectiveness in the Republic of Korea Navy. The upgrade includes essential modifications to the MK 99 fire control system, Weapon Direct System software, and logistical support.
