On the first Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji we have explained 'the history of Adi Granth' in detail. It also explains how Adi Granth (Aad Granth) was established by Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The final form of Guru Granth Sahib Ji was completed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1704

.....Brief History.....

Guru Granth Sahib was first compiled by the Fifth Guru, Shri Arjan Dev Ji, in 1604 in the city of Amritsar. It is known as Adi Granth. Its second and last version was the handwork of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, and it was finalized at Damdama Sahib in the year 1705. He added the hymns of his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Ninth Master, and a couplet of his own to the volume wrought a century earlier. It is known as Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This Holy book is more than just a scripture of the Sikhs, for the Sikhs regard and respect the Granth as their living Guru. When one visits a Gurdwara (a Sikh temple), the Guru Granth Sahib forms the main part of the Darbar Sahib or Main Hall.
