Onism
“The awareness of how little of the world you'll experience.” - This word created by John Koenig for his “Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows”. For a while I performed this tune with its original title, but after Prince Enoki persistently (and correctly) roasted me for writing a song about “self-love” (onanism), I adopted the abbreviated title.
The film was created by Unreal Engine artist Jules Downey. She and I met about a year ago and instantly clicked. We've since collaborated on a handful of projects, including an audio-reactive music video for Monophilia. There is a space where advanced technology meets creative art. Jules lives in that space, and I'm honoured that she occasionally allows me to hang out in the lobby...
Tech details: The scene was created using Unreal Engine and TouchDesigner, implementing realtime audio-reactive lighting and fog effects.
