Floral Diversity of Khandala | Species and Habitats Awareness Programme | THT Films
Nestled 625 metres above sea level, Khandala isn’t just a weekend escape for Mumbai and Pune — it’s a monsoon marvel waiting to be explored. As the rains roll in, the Sahyadri hills come alive with the vibrant bloom of wildflowers like Ceropegia, impatiens, and rare orchids, painting the landscape with colour.
But there’s more than meets the eye. Beneath this floral carpet, a hidden world of frogs, insects, and forest life thrives — from rare amphibians to tiny pollinators and delicate mosses. These microhabitats form the backbone of the Western Ghats' biodiversity.
This short documentary by The Habitats Trust invites you to discover the ecological richness of Khandala’s hills, where every plant and creature plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges.
The Habitats Trust and MahaMTB present the pioneering first-ever Marathi language video series, the 'Species and Habitats Awareness Programme'. This episode is part of a whopping 100-episode undertaking by MahaMTB, supported by The Habitats Trust, to showcase lesser-known forest and marine species in their habitats.
