Dean Martin rose from poverty as Dino Paul Crocetti, son of Italian immigrants in Steubenville, Ohio, working as a steel mill laborer, blackjack dealer, and boxer ("Kid Crochet") before finding fame. After his iconic partnership with Jerry Lewis ended in 1956, he shocked Hollywood with dramatic acting in The Young Lions (1958) alongside Marlon Brando, then dominated music charts, knocking the Beatles off #1 with "Everybody Loves Somebody" in 1964.
