The philosopher Yeshayahu Leibowitz loves our Haftarah portion, where King David supplies his son Solomon with a "hit list" on his deathbed. It proves that even the saintly King David can be corrupted by power.
He advocated for, right to David Ben-Gurion's face, a separation between religion and state so that religion can be free to critique the state.
Rabbi Ye'ela Rosenfeld looks at why Leibowitz thought this way, and how it relations to our portion Vayechi.
